Canoeing

There are plenty of places along the Dordogne where you can rent a canoe for almost any amount of time, from a few hours to several days. The Dordogne itself between Argentat and Beaulieu (about 15 miles downstream) is fairly quiet, with only a few "faster" sections. It is suitable for people of almost any age. The trip from Argentat to Beaulieu takes almost all day if you don't put any effort into it (i.e. you let the river itself do most of the work!), so you need to be up for a fairly early start.
